  • OOB Review: DevilArts 1/100 Providence (Part 2: Weapons and Accessories)

    devilarts providence main photo
Hello gundam fans, here is the part 2 of the DevilArts 1/100 Providence. If you haven't seen the part 1 of the review which is the articulation, click here. In this review I will show you what accessories it comes with and everything that is included in the box.

    Weapons

The first accessory Providence comes with is a beam rifle which is somewhat like a bazooka because of its long length. The handle can be moved up and down to provide better range of motion of the weapon because of its length. There's also a secondary handle which moves from side to side and is a bit loose and there's a clear piece for the camera on the scope. The main disappointing thing about this weapon is its shear size and because it is too long it is hindered by the backpack which is very wide and covers the whole back of Providence. I've done a modification on the rifle and will show it to you later. Also notable is the seam line that runs on top and bottom of the rifle which if you're going to be painting it would be a bit hard to remove because of the length, otherwise its manageable.

The second accessory that it comes with is the shield/beam saber. As you can see the beam saber is longer than the rifle and is almost as tall as the gundam itself. The beam saber is mounted on the shield which covers the whole forearm. The shield connection is just friction so if you're going to be painting it, it will get scratched a lot on the forearm part. No moving part on this shield. There is also a clear piece on the shield inside the blue piece. The blue piece is very UV reactive.

Next in line are the dragoons. Now as I've mentioned in part 1, the dragoons are already on the backpack and skirt armors but for it to be considered weaponized, we have to mount it on the effect parts which are clear blue pieces. These effect parts are very UV reactive. The dragoons by the way are not all one solid piece, the skirt dragoons are made of two pieces and the biggest dragoons on the back pack consists of four pieces. The smaller dragoons on the backpack are one piece.

    Accessories

And here are all the goodies that Providence comes with. All in all we have one beam rifle, a shield/beam saber, a beam saber effect parts, 12 blue effect parts for the dragoons. We also have an additional big dragoon which cannot be mounted anymore on the backpack. It can be used on kit bashes though. And yes, we have 5 sets of  hands all comes with the hand armor. We have open hands, closed fists, trigger fingers on both sides, holding hands on both sides which is of no use and a bent holding hands.

    Modification

As I have mentioned earlier, i have modified the rifle so it can be used properly with the MS.

    Decals

The kit is comes with a nice set of water slide decals. Which you can only get if you bough pbandai stuff or ver ka kits. Yes that's a large sheet of water slide decals. As for the stickers, we have 2 sets for the eyes. The one is the regular foil sticker and the other is something like a rubberized sticker which can be very very hard to remove from the sticker sheet. I've seen  some people asking how to remove that kind of sticker, what I did is bent the paper on the edge of the sticker and some push using a hobby knife and it came off.

    Shots

Here are more shots of the MS.

    Final Verdict

Yes this is a very nice build and the kit comes with a lot of treats. The question is do you want to buy this? Definitely. The bandai will most probably be a bit better than this but yes this is as close to bandai as any bootleg that I've ever built. Only downside again is the long rifle which I modified to be of better use. And also it doesn't have an action base connection piece nor does it have a hole or peg to attach it to action base. But you can use a generic attachment piece that hooks on the connection between the thigh and the waist. None the less I really enjoyed building this kit. Thank you guys for reading! Until next time!

  • OOB Review: DevilArts 1/100 Providence (Part 1: Articulation)

    devilarts providence
Hello Gundam fans and welcome to Maeji Builds. Today, I will be reviewing  the 1/100 Devil Arts Providence. First and foremost this is not a bandai kit. The manufacturer of this kit is Devil Arts, a third party company and this is their very first release. But despite being new to the playing field, I must say I am very impressed with the quality of the plastic and the amount of details they've put on to this kit. With that in mind, let's get on to the articulation.

    Articulation

Let's start on the head articulation. As you can see the head can only move that far up. But it can move too far down and can rotate 360. The front and back head camera is a clear yellow piece as well as the eyes which is a clear green piece and there's a sticker for that and the v-fins are already sharp out-of-the-box. The head vulcan piece together with the dark gray v-fins at the back are a bit loose so take good care of it. Also the gray mouth piece has holes for vents which are a bit fragile so take care not to put pressure on it as you push it on the red piece. Those shoulder vulcans are sadly not articulated. Very good parts separation overall for the head.

On shoulder articulation, we have a double jointed elbow and a very nice detail on the joints. The shoulders can go 360 if not for the backpack and the shoulder armors move individually. The shoulders can swing forward a little. There's a swivel below the shoulder and the arm can raise more than 90 degrees. The hands has different options which I will discuss later but all of those hands has a hinge so it can swing in and out.

On to the body articulation we have a nice stomach crunch. The body cannot swing backwards. The cables around the body is not rubber which is very nice if you consider painting the kit. The body can swing from side to side and rotate from left to right but not 360. I also want to point out that the joints that enable the body movement is pretty solid. It can stay like that without worrying about the backpack weighing down the body. There's also no cockpit hatch, but who needs one? lol

For the waist articulation, all the skirt armors are movable. The front and back skirts are on a ball joints, two points of articulation for the front and three points of articulation for the back skirt. the side skirts are on a hinge and there are three points of articulation and the side dragoons can move independently. All of the dragoons on the side and back skirts can be detached and attach on effect parts which I will discuss later. I must say the amount of details on the skirt armors are pretty amazing.

On to the leg articulation. We can do a full split and there's a swivel on the top of the legs. The connection between the legs and the waist swings up and down and there's a ratchet inside. What's most noticeable is the armor separation on the leg when its in full bend. And of course we have a nice bend  and a double jointed knees. The knees will separate upon bending. The lower leg armor can flop ups and downs. The vents/thrusters on the back of the leg can also swing up and down. There's some kind of hydraulics at the top of the foot. The foot can swing back to front a bit and side to side. The toe can move independently. Also nice details on the legs and the back part.

And lastly, we go to the backpack articulation. The backpack is in a double jointed peg piece with has pegs on both sides that attaches to the backpack and the back of the gundam. It allows for movement of the backpack which can swing the top and the bottom part. The 2nd and 4th dragoon can swing front to back and all the dragoons can detach and reattached to an effect part. And there's a nice clear blue piece on the thrusters which I believe is very UV reactive. Overall the details of the backpack is enormous and there's a lot going up there.

    Verdict

Overall the articulation is pretty amazing and very advance and the amount of details for every parts are very very good. Not convinced yet? Watch out for the part 2 as we discuss the accessories of this kit. The question is, do you want to buy this? I believe its a very big treat considering the price is just around 20 bucks (got it for Php1200).
